Wow can you believe we are already in June?! There have been a lot of changes this year and things are just getting better. I cannot wait to dive into them with you!
Before we reflect on May I want to let you know that I am in a gallery! The Byrne Gallery (in Middleburg, VA) found me at Artomatic and asked me to be in a show in June! I am so incredibly excited and honored that they chose me. The show, Shenandoah Summer, runs from June 5th-30th. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, June 8th from 4-7pm and I will be giving an artist talk on Sunday, June 23rd from 2-4.
Last week I stopped by The Byrne Gallery to drop off my paintings for the show. We were taking the paintings out one by one to look at them and take inventory so they were scattered around in stacks leaning against furniture and walls. A couple of women walked into the gallery to look around and noticed my paintings on the ground. They asked if they were for sale and we told them they were. These two women started looking through my paintings, I was helping them move stacks so they could see everything. One of them loved my work so much she bought one of the paintings right from the floor! We opened a bottle of champagne and celebrated right on the spot! I included a picture of us when she bought the painting below!
May has been so crazy, Artomatic ended and I went to Carmel, California for a week to paint in the Carmel Art Festival competition! The weather was overcast, windy and chilly but we didn't let that stop us! The scenery was gorgeous and I learned a lot about the California landscape. Luckily we got there a couple of days early to warm up, which was much appreciated. I painted like crazy from Tuesday-Friday and submitted two paintings for the judging. On Friday evening both of my paintings sold! I had an opportunity to meet the buyer and am confident they are going to a great home! On Sunday I participated in a quick draw. We had 3 hours to check in, find a spot, paint and make it back to the park! Participating in this competition was a great experience and I hope I get to go back in the future!
Lastly, my friend Madeline Wilkins (the author of our children's book, Gus' Special, Magical, Most Favorite Hat) and I (the illustrator of said book) will be doing at pop up book event at M Judson Booksellers in Greenville, SC on June 29th from 10am-12pm. I would love to see you there! The Gus books are incredibly special to us and we love sharing this story with our community.
